This First Aid Skills update is the annual refresher programme for personnel who previously completed either the three-day First Aid at Work or the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course.
The HSE First Aid Guidance issued on 1st October 2009 ‘Strongly Recommends’ that first aiders and emergency first aiders update their skills and knowledge on an annual basis.
This is an ideal course to help keep your first aiders updated; it also provides an opportunity for them to ask any questions they may have and share experiences with their peers.
It is widely recognised that first aiders skills drop rapidly after attending most first aid courses. Unfortunately, this means that when an incident occurs most first aiders will suffer skill fade or have less confidence in their skills.
This 3 hour course is designed to readdress the balance by reducing skill fade and giving first aiders the confidence they need to deal with any emergency situation. This training is NOT MANDATORY and is not necessarily required where first aiders practice their skills by regular training; for example swimming pool lifeguards or health care professionals, but is ‘STRONGLY RECOMMENDED’ for the thousands of first aiders who work in offices and other employment where practise or experience is unlikely to be gained naturally.
- Managing Incidents
- Basic Life Support
- Control of Bleeding
- Examination of a Casualty
- Treating shock
